How we handle your data

TAXCLARA works by reading your financial documents with AI. That only works if you can trust exactly what happens to them — so here it is, in plain language, no legalese.

The short version

  • ✓ Your data is never sold and never shared with advertisers. There are no ads.
  • ✓ Your documents are never used to train AI models — ours or anyone else's.
  • ✓ Everything is encrypted in transit and at rest.
  • ✓ You can export everything and delete your account — permanently — anytime, right in the app.
  • ✓ Built in Lisbon by an independent maker who pays taxes here too — not a data company.

What the AI actually sees

When you scan a receipt or import a statement, the document is read by Claude — AI models made by Anthropic — under a data processing agreement. Three things matter:

  • No training. Anthropic does not use data sent through its API to train its models. Your grocery run doesn't teach anyone's AI.
  • No identity. We send the document itself — not your name, email, or account. The AI sees a receipt, not a person.
  • No lingering copies. Anthropic keeps API data only briefly (up to 30 days, for abuse prevention), then deletes it. Your data lives in TAXCLARA, nowhere else.

Bank connections

Where bank sync is available, it runs through a PSD2-regulated open banking provider — the same EU framework your bank itself is bound by. You authorize access on your bank's website; we never see or store your bank login. Access is read-only, expires automatically, and you can revoke it anytime in Settings.

Where your data lives

Your records are stored in an encrypted managed database, and your uploaded documents in private file storage that only your authenticated account can reach. We use a short list of processors to run the service — Anthropic (AI), Enable Banking (bank connections), Vercel (hosting and file storage), Neon (database), Resend (email), Sentry (crash reports) — each under a data processing agreement, with EU Standard Contractual Clauses covering any processing outside the EEA. The controls you keep

  • Sharing is yours to decide — data is only visible to workspace members you invite, and you can remove them.
  • Export your complete data from Settings, in open formats.
  • Delete any item, any bank connection, or your whole account — deletion is real and permanent.
  • GDPR rights — access, correction, portability, erasure — most exercisable directly in the app, the rest one email away.
